Mexico's Acapulco hit by garbage pile-up after deadly hurricane
Saturday, 11 November 2023 Residents of Acapulco are facing a new problem following the devastating hurricane: piles of garbage in the streets, raising concerns about the spread of disease. Hurricane Otis, the most powerful storm to hit Mexico's Pacific coast, caused major flooding and destruction of homes, resulting in the dumping of rotting waste outside homes. The government has sent soldiers to clean up the city, but the rubbish is accumulating so quickly that it is causing traffic congestion.
Two weeks after the deadly Hurricane Otis struck Acapulco, boats lie submerged in the harbour, and the popular tourist resort on Mexico's Pacific coast is still struggling to get back on its feet.
