French senator accused of drugging and sexually assaulting fellow lawmaker

A French senator has been charged with drugging another lawmaker with the intention of rape or sexual assault. Joel Guerriau, representing the Loire-Atlantique region in western France, is suspected of putting ecstasy in a glass of Champagne served to Sandrine Josso, who fell ill and left the apartment. Guerriau's lawyer claims it was a handling error and that he did not intend to abuse Josso. Guerriau has been charged with use and possession of drugs, as well as secretly administering a substance to commit a rape or sexual assault. He has been suspended from his party.
