EU chief discusses Gaza humanitarian crisis in Egypt
Saturday, 18 November 2023 European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed her opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians during a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo. She thanked Egypt for its role in providing humanitarian aid to vulnerable Palestinians and discussed the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Von der Leyen also visited North Sinai to inspect a European Union humanitarian convoy and meet with wounded Palestinians.
The EU will work with its partners to ensure the four-day truce agreed between Israel and Hamas on Wednesday leads to “a humanitarian surge in Gaza,” the bloc's humanitarian aid chief has said.
