This led to a secretive effort involving US President Joe Biden, who engaged in urgent conversations with the emir of Qatar and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. A small team was established to privately work on the hostage issue, which eventually resulted in a prisoner swap deal mediated by Qatar and Egypt.
