Death toll from Somalia floods nears 100

IndiaTimes Thursday, 23 November 2023
Devastating floods in Somalia, caused by heavy rainfall linked to the El Nino weather phenomenon, have resulted in a death toll close to 100 and affected almost two million people. The floods come as Somalia emerges from a drought that pushed millions to the brink of famine. The government has declared a state of emergency and is carrying out efforts to assist those affected. The Horn of Africa region is vulnerable to climate change, and extreme weather events are occurring more frequently and with greater intensity. Flooding has also caused casualties in Ethiopia and Kenya.
