US Treasury sanctions network for role in fentanyl import

The United States is imposing sanctions on 15 Mexican individuals accused of involvement in importing fentanyl into the country. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced this during her visit to Mexico City. The US Treasury targeted a network of individuals and entities affiliated with the Beltran Leyva Organization cartel to disrupt the supply of fentanyl. Yellen highlighted that fentanyl is the leading cause of death for people aged 18 to 49 in the United States. She emphasized the need for cooperation between the US and Mexico to tackle the fentanyl crisis.
