US congressman rebuked for setting off fire alarm

IndiaTimes Thursday, 7 December 2023
Democratic congressman Jamaal Bowman was censured by the House of Representatives for deliberately setting off a fire alarm at the US Capitol complex. He admitted to the misdemeanor and agreed to a fine and apology. Three Democrats joined Republicans in passing the censure. Bowman pulled the alarm to open a door he couldn't get through, causing an evacuation. Republicans accused him of trying to stall a vote. House Democrats stood by Bowman and criticized "extreme Republicans" for not addressing misconduct by their own members.
