Nicaragua jails second Catholic bishop as crackdown intensifies

Another Catholic bishop, Isidro Mora, was arrested in Nicaragua, becoming the second bishop detained in the government crackdown. Mora was arrested for praying for his fellow detained bishop, Rolando Alvarez, who is a prominent critic of President Ortega. Over the years, Ortega has targeted Catholic institutions and leaders, accusing them of undermining his government. The Vatican severed formal ties with Nicaragua's government this year after Pope Francis criticized Daniel Ortega's regime, calling it a 'gross dictatorship'.
