Tunisians vote in local elections on Sunday to fill a new chamber as economy flatlines

IndiaTimes Saturday, 23 December 2023
Tunisians are preparing to vote in the country's first local elections since the approval of a new constitution last year. The elections will determine the composition of a new National Council of Regions and Districts, part of President Kais Saied's plan to reshape politics in Tunisia. However, there is little enthusiasm for the elections due to ongoing issues such as butter and milk shortages, political party boycotts, and the ongoing prosecutions of the president's critics.
