Russia reopens embassy in Burkina Faso closed in 1992

After a hiatus of nearly 32 years, Russia officially reopened its embassy in Burkina Faso on Thursday, as confirmed by the West African nation's government and a Russian diplomat. The embassy, which had been closed since 1992, saw its revival, with the Russian Ambassador to Ivory Coast, Alexei Saltykov, announcing that the new envoy would be appointed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Burkina Faso foreign ministry issued a statement confirming the formal reopening of the Russian embassy in Ouagadougou on Thursday.
