Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez appoints new economy minister

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez appoints Carlos Cuerpo, the head of the treasury department, as the new economy minister, replacing Nadia Calvino. Calvino is leaving to head the European Investment Bank. Sanchez praises Cuerpo as an honest professional with deep knowledge of public administration and economic policy. Cuerpo previously worked closely with Calvino, who worked in the European Commission's budget department before her political career began. The new minister will have to address the phasing out of inflation relief policies as Spain's economic growth slows.
