Japanese villages wait for help after earthquake

IndiaTimes Saturday, 6 January 2024
A tsunami caused by the New Year's Day earthquake hit Shiromaru, a coastal community in the Noto peninsula of Japan. The tsunami devastated the area, leaving behind destruction and debris. Despite being well-prepared for earthquakes, the mostly elderly residents had to flee to higher ground. The death toll from the earthquake and its aftermath has reached 100, with many still unaccounted for. The village of Shiromaru, like many others in the region, lacks supplies and is cut off from essential services.
