Defence secretary keeps White House in dark about hospitalisation

IndiaTimes Sunday, 7 January 2024
The Pentagon breached protocol by taking three and a half days to inform the White House about Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's hospitalization. Austin's hospitalization, following complications from a procedure, was not disclosed to senior defense officials until Thursday. The delayed notification puzzled officials across the government, and Austin issued an apology, taking responsibility for the lack of disclosure. President Biden expressed full confidence in Austin, who has since resumed his duties. The incident raised concerns about the breakdown in communication and the need for consequences.
