Terry Edward Branstad is an American politician, university administrator, and politically appointed diplomat from the Republican Party. He served as the governor of Iowa from 1983 to 1999 and from 2011 to 2017. Branstad served as United States Ambassador to China from 2017 to 2020, during the presidency of Donald Trump. He also served three terms in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1973 to 1979.
