The suspect, who held a woman and two children hostage inside a home, was later shot and killed by police. According to Tacoma Police Chief Don Ramsdell, the officer died after being rushed to a hospital for emergency surgery. Local news identified the officer as a 45-year-old man who served on the force for 17 years. The officer was responding to a domestic violence call in an eastern Tacoma neighborhood.
