Transcript: Sweden Drops Rape Investigation Against WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange

Prosecutors in Sweden say they are dropping its rape investigation into Julian Assange.

The Wikileaks founder sought refuge at the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012.

He has always denied the rape allegations and refused to go to Sweden for fear of being extradited to the United States.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, WikiLeaks came under criticism for distributing hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee.

Assange also acknowleged that the release of the documents had been timed to induce maximum harm to the prospects of Hillary Clinton.

He is also accused of leaking thousands of American government documents that were stolen by Chelsea Manning.

Manning who was granted clemency by former President Barack Obama was just released from prison.

Assange was also actively involved in helping Edward Snowden released a trove of classified documents as well, which were grounds for a warrant for his arrest by the Justice Department.

After the news broke that Sweden dropped its investigation, Assange posted an old, smiling picture of himself on his Twitter, but hasn’t made any other comment.
