Less hate, more beer: A Florida brewery is giving away free beer to people who give up their tickets to see white nationalist leader Richard Spencer speak.
Spencer is set to speak at the University of Florida’s Gainesville campus this week.
But the Alligator Brewing Company has concocted a plan to create empty seats at the venue by offering a free beer for every two tickets brought in.
Explaining its rationale on Facebook the company writes, “free speech is a cornerstone of our great nation… speech that condones, let alone promotes racial supremacy has no home in America.” But it looks like Spencer has found out about the plan, according to the Miami Herald.
Instead of giving away tickets throughout the week, 700 tickets will now be given away in person at the event.
The Alligator Brewing Company updated its post saying it will continue to stand by its pledge.
Spencer was a headliner at the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, which later turned to pandemonium leaving one dead.
Florida’s Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency citing the threat of violence.
UF’s President W.
Kent Fuchs has urged students and staff to avoid the event and to challenge his “message of hate and racism.“ Spencer telling the Tampa Bay Times, "It's flattering, I guess.
I am in the same genre as hurricanes and invading armies."
