Windrush Day: UK celebrates 75th anniversary

Britain has today marked 75 years since the very first ship arrived from the Caribbean at Tilbury Docks in Essex.

On board HMT Empire Windrush were hundreds of migrants who came to Britain to help rebuild the country after the Second World War.

There was dancing, singing and celebration at services in Windsor, Southwark Cathedral and London Waterloo station.

However, there was also anger and hurt.

This year marks five years since the Windrush scandal which left thousands facing detention and deportation despite having every right to live in the UK.

Asylum seeker sentenced to life for revenge terror killing

A Moroccan asylum seeker has been sentenced to life in jail for murder, with a minimum term of 45 years, at Teesside Crown Court. In October last year, 45-year-old Ahmed Alid stabbed Iranian Christian convert Javed Nouri at the house he was sharing with other asylum seekers before looking for more victims in Hartlepool town centre. He then stabbed and killed 70-year-old Terence Carney who was out for his regular early morning walk. Alid told police he had committed his crimes out of “revenge” for Israel killing children in the Palestinian conflict. Report by Jonesia.
