US & Turkey hold joint military drills, largest in 7 years, in a bid to improve ties | Oneindia News

Turkey and the US held their largest joint military exercises in at least seven years.

It is reported to be a sign of improving ties between the two nations as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan seeks another meeting with Joe Biden next month.

Reports quoted three Turkish officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.

They said that the past week’s drills, along with a visit from a bipartisan Congressional delegation, show both sides seeking to rebuild their longtime alliance.

The officials reportedly said that Turkey is seeking to arrange a meeting between Erdogan and the US president on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit in New Delhi, following one in Lithuania last month.

Hamas Trying To Set Up A Secret Base In Turkey? | IDF Claims Capturing Hamas Secret Document

Hamas has been planning to establish a covert base in Turkey and other terror cells to coordinate attacks against Israeli targets, including NATO members, according to a document captured by the IDF in Gaza, reported by The Times. The document, found in the home of a key Hamas leader’s chief of staff, outlines a strategy to create secret bases to bolster resistance forces and conduct intelligence and military operations. The plan includes targeted assassinations, sabotage of Israeli naval vessels, and kidnappings. The Turkish government, supportive of Hamas, labels it a "liberation group." President Erdogan has harshly criticised Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, stating his methods would make "Hitler jealous." Erdogan also announced that over 1,000 Hamas members are being treated in Turkish hospitals and expressed disappointment over Greece’s stance that Hamas is a terrorist organisation. Despite public support, Erdogan denies that Hamas conducts terrorist operations from Turkey. #Hamas #TurkeyBase #IDF #SecretDocument #Erdogan #YahyaSinwar #RafahOffensive #Netanyahu #IsraelHamasWar #MiddleEastConflict #Terrorism #GazaStrip #Mossad #NATO #CovertOperations ~HT.97~PR.152~ED.101~

In February, Hur's yearlong investigation into whether President Biden mishandled classified documents ended without enough evidence to support criminal charges. House Republicans were provided a transcript of Biden's interview with Hur, but they wanted the audio, which the DOJ denied. As a result, House Republicans were moving to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress. On May 16, the Department of Justice told House Republicans that the president asserted executive privilege over audio from his interview with the special counsel. The move protects Garland from criminal exposure as GOP lawmakers seek to hold him accountable. Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte explained the DOJ's actions in a letter. The Attorney General must draw a line that safeguards the Department from improper political influence and protects our principles, our law enforcement work, and the people who carry out that work independently, without fear or favor, Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte, via letter . White House Counsel Ed Siskel also wrote a letter supporting the assertion of executive privilege. . NATO member Lithuania Defies Russian Nuclear Threats, Commits Troops to Ukraine Training Mission

In defiance of Russia's nuclear threats, Lithuania remains steadfast in its commitment to dispatch soldiers for a training mission in Ukraine, as stated by Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte in an interview with the Financial Times published on Wednesday. Simonyte's remarks come in the wake of the Russian Defense Ministry's declaration of preparations for tactical nuclear weapons exercises, citing Western "threats and provocations." Addressing concerns over potential Russian reactions, Simonyte emphasised that succumbing to such fears would paralyse action, highlighting the recurring spectre of nuclear threats. She reiterated Lithuania's resolve to support Ukraine with troops despite the risks. #NATOMember #Lithuania #DefiesRussianThreats #TroopCommitment #UkraineMission #NATOvsRussia #NuclearTensions #SupportForUkraine #BalticSolidarity #GlobalSecurity #MilitaryAlliance #GeopoliticalConflict #EasternEurope #PeacekeepingEfforts #InternationalRelations ~HT.178~PR.152~ED.194~GR.124~
