In Gaza, the anguished distress of a bereaved father
"She told me ‘take Mecca out of my womb’": these were the last words Ayman Abu Shamalah’s wife told him before she died under the rubble of a building that was struck by Israeli bombardment of Gaza.
Ayman’s baby girl Mecca was born on the day her mother and two siblings died.
"October 21 was Sham and Adam's birthday and it became the day they died.
It will be a very difficult day for me every year," says Ayman.
Mecca is now fighting for her life in an incubator at a hospital in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
