Gilian Keegan says the allegations against Conservative MP Crispin Blunt are "serious", but that all the party can do is "act quickly in these cases".
It comes after Mr Blunt was arrested on October 25 on suspicion of rape and posession of controlled substances.
The MP for Reigate has had the whip suspended, but claims his arrest was "unnecessary" and that he is "ready to co-operate fully" with the police investigation.

A 14-year-old boy killed in a sword attack as he walked to school has been named as Daniel Anjorin. Tributes have been paid to the teenager who has been described as a "much-loved" pupil and a keen footballer. The horrific attack which took place in Hainault, north-east London on Tuesday morning left four more people injured. A 17-year-old boy has been arrested and remains in custody on suspicion of attempted murder after three people were injured at a school in Sheffield. The parents of Grace OāMalley-Kumar have blamed āfailingsā in the system for a series of stabbing attacks, including a sword attack in Hainault on Tuesday and a school stabbing in Sheffield on Wednesday.
