One of the women delivers a brief statement, likely under duress, criticising Israel’s response to the hostage crisis.
Hamas captured around 240 people during the deadly raid and said that they will release them in return for thousands of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
In a significant political challenge to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant urged Netanyahu to make difficult decisions for non-Hamas governance in Gaza, warning that the current war gains are at risk and Israel's long-term security is endangered. Gallant strongly opposed Israeli civil or military rule in Gaza, advocating instead for governance by non-Hamas Palestinian entities with international support. He stressed the urgent need for a viable alternative to Hamas to prevent the group from regrouping and undermining Israel's military achievements. He emphasised the importance of political action alongside military efforts and the critical role of all government departments in achieving this goal.
