Bangladesh police clash with protesting garment workers

Violence breaks out in the industrial town of Gazipur outside the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka, after more than 10,000 workers staged protests in factories and along highways to reject a government offer of a pay rise.

A government-appointed panel raised wages earlier this week by more than 50 percent for the country's four million garment factory workers, who are seeking a near-tripling of their monthly wage.
