Aaron Bushnell: US airman set himself ablaze outside Israeli embassy | Know all about him | Oneindia
A tragic incident unfolded outside the Israeli embassy in Washington DC on Sunday.
A US military service member, identified as Aaron Bushnell, set himself on fire in an apparent protest against the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
Donned in military attire, Bushnell recorded himself shouting 'Free Palestine' before immolating himself, decrying what he called a "genocide" in Gaza.
Despite swift intervention by the Secret Service, Bushnell later succumbed to his injuries.
Labour's Darren Jones has said the party does not support a ground offensive in Rafah. The shadow chief secretary expressed concern over the potential harm to more than a million Palestinian civilians sheltering there as a long-threatened Israeli ground invasion is reportedly "imminent." A driver died after crashing a car into the exterior gate of the White House late Saturday, the US Secret Service said. "Shortly before 10:30 pm a vehicle travelling at a high speed collided with an outer perimeter gate on the White House complex" the service said in a statement on social media platform X. The Secret Service, along with the police and fire departments of the District of Columbia, have launched an investigation into the fatal crash, according to Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. He added there was "no threat or public safety implications". In January, authorities detained another person who crashed a vehicle into the exterior gate of the same complex.

Hamas has accepted a ceasefire proposal from Egypt and Qatar. At the same time, Israel continues its bombing campaign in eastern Rafah despite not accepting the ceasefire terms. Reports indicate that around 100,000 Palestinians in Rafah have been asked to evacuate. Ismail Haniyeh, representing Hamas, informed Qatari and Egyptian officials of the group's approval of the ceasefire. However, Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu's office stated that the proposed deal falls short of Israel's demands but will still send a delegation for negotiations.
