The U.S. military confirmed on Saturday that a UK-owned ship, attacked by Houthi militants last month, has sunk in the Red Sea.
This confirmation echoes concerns raised by Yemen's internationally recognized government regarding the hazardous fertiliser cargo aboard the vessel, posing a significant risk to marine life.
The Rubymar, registered in Belize, marks the first casualty since the Houthis commenced targeting commercial ships back in November.
These relentless drone and missile assaults have compelled shipping companies to reroute vessels through the longer route around southern Africa, disrupting global trade by causing delays in deliveries and escalating costs.
In a bold statement aired on Al-Masirah TV, Allama Muhammad Muftah, head of the Houthi-run Supreme Committee for Supporting Al-Aqsa, delivered a stern message. He vowed that any Israeli aggression towards Rafah in Gaza would be met with swift and decisive action from Yemen. Muftah declared that the Houthis were prepared to escalate their attacks on shipping, signalling a dangerous escalation in the conflict. He emphasised that this response would not be limited to Yemen alone but would extend to any Israeli aggression across the region.
