Labour: Sunak should return every penny from Frank Hester

Shadow paymaster general Jonathan Ashworth said that the prime minister should return “every penny piece” of the £10 million donated to the Conservatives by major Tory backer, Frank Hester, who has been accused of making racist comments about Labour MP Diane Abbott.

Mr Ashworth said: If the comments are racist and wrong, why is [Rishi Sunak] still happy to use their money to pay for his leaflets in an election campaign.

Starmer channels Blair & Miliband to launch election pledges

Sir Keir Starmer has unveiled a pledge card with six "first steps" the Labour Party would take if it were to form a government after the next general election. The steps include measures to invest in the NHS, education and policing, to set up a new national energy company and an elite border force, and to promote economic stability. The move, unveiled during a campaign speech in Essex, is reminiscent of Tony Blair’s five pledges ahead of Labour’s landslide victory in 1997, and less favourably of Ed Miliband’s promises carved into stone in 2015. Asylum seeker sentenced to life for revenge terror killing

A Moroccan asylum seeker has been sentenced to life in jail for murder, with a minimum term of 45 years, at Teesside Crown Court. In October last year, 45-year-old Ahmed Alid stabbed Iranian Christian convert Javed Nouri at the house he was sharing with other asylum seekers before looking for more victims in Hartlepool town centre. He then stabbed and killed 70-year-old Terence Carney who was out for his regular early morning walk. Alid told police he had committed his crimes out of “revenge” for Israel killing children in the Palestinian conflict. Report by Jonesia.
