Keith Flint: Prodigy Frontman Died as a Result of Hangingby 👨‍💻 Simon Baxendale

Keith Flint, the iconic frontman of ground-breaking electronic unit The Prodigy, sadly passed away last week at the age of 49. Flint’s striking appearance and famous performance of the band’s hits ‘Firestarter’, ‘Breathe’ and many more from the 90s onwards helped to make him an eclectic household name. The band had undergone many changes over the years in terms of personnel and musical output – however, Flint was always seen as the face of the group to many people.

BBC News advises that a hearing has confirmed the vocalist died as a result of hanging himself in his home in Essex, England, on March 4th. “Police attended, all protocols were followed and his death was confirmed as not suspicious,” Coronoer’s Officer Lynsey Chaffe confirmed. Toxicology reports are thought be on their way, with a full hearing on the singer’s death provisionally set for July 23rd.

Flint had remained active with the band, who had been set to embark on a tour of the US later this spring, and who had recently finished touring in Australasia. They have continued to release music even as recently as November 2018, though their exact future now remains uncertain following Flint’s tragic passing. The remaining band has, however, continued to remain active on social media by reaching out to thank fans and followers for their ongoing support and words of kindness.

Prodigy members Maxim and Liam Hewlett referred to Flint as a ‘true pioneer’, and an ‘innovator and legend’. Other tributes have flooded in from across the entertainment industry, variously referring to Flint as an enduring icon of electronic music who was always a pleasure to work with and be around. For many people growing up and listening to music in the 90s and 00s, Flint will always be remembered for his striking looks, his unique vocal style and his charisma – and, naturally, he will be missed by millions across the world.
