Speaking before leaving the G7 summit in Japan, Rishi Sunak has praised the 'historic' attendance of President Zelenskyy and reinforced the unity and determination of the G7 allies to stand with Ukraine. Mr Sunak hailed President Biden's provision of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine and said that the UK will help train Ukrainian pilots starting this summer. Report by Etemadil. In a major boost to beef up Ukraine’s air defence capabilities due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, the US has now said it will allow its Western allies to supply Ukraine with advanced fighter jets, including American-made F-16s. National security adviser Jake Sullivan said that President Joe Biden has already "informed his G7 counterparts" of the decision at the bloc's summit in Hiroshima yesterday. US troops will also train Kyiv's pilots to use these advanced jets. Although it seems increasingly likely that Ukraine will eventually receive the advanced jets it so desperately wants, no government has so far confirmed it will send them to Kyiv. Countries can only resell or re-export American military hardware if the US approves it, so this decision actually clears the way for other nations to send their existing stocks of F-16s to Ukraine. The US had been sceptical about providing Ukraine with modern fighter jets…worrying that this decision might be seen as its direct involvement in the war. Its focus has instead been on providing military support on land. Ukraine has long sought advanced jets and President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed the move as a "historic decision".

On May 14, the Biden administration said that
migrant crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border
have fallen since Title 42 expired.
The numbers we have experienced in
the past two days are markedly down over
what they were prior to the end of Title 42, Alejandro Mayorkas, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary, via Reuters.
According to U.S. Homeland Security Secretary
Alejandro Mayorkas, border patrol agents have
reported a 50% drop in crossings since May 11. .
Mayorkas said that criminal penalties for migrants
entering the country illegally accounted for
the decrease in illegal border crossings.
There is a lawful, safe and orderly way
to arrive in United States. That is through
the pathways that President Biden has
expanded in an unprecedented way,
and then there's a consequence if one
does not use those lawful pathways, Alejandro Mayorkas, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary, via Reuters.
Reuters reports that officials in communities near the
border say that the expected surge of migrants many fear
will strain border facilities and towns is still on the way. .
The amount of migrants
we were expecting initially
- the big flow - is not here yet, Victor Trevino, Mayor of Laredo, Texas, via Reuters.
Others pointed out that while the surge experienced at
the border has yet to reach the magnitude of what
was expected, numbers still remain historically high.
What the secretary failed to say is,
this week has seen more crossings
than any time, any week, in our history, Representative Mark Green, Republican chairman of
the House Homeland Security Committee, via CNN
