While the movie world may have been going crazy over Marvel in recent months thanks to Infinity War and Deadpool 2, another Disney franchise – the Star Wars saga – is set to get a new prequel instalment very soon indeed, with Alden Ehrenreich leading as Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story, set to show us what Harrison Ford’s bounty hunter was up to before he met up with the Skywalkers in the very first Star Wars movie. Coincidentally, the first Star Wars movie celebrates its 41st birthday this week, so it’s come at a very apt time! However, tongues are already wagging about what’s lined up next for the expanded Star Wars universe – though we’re anticipating the unnamed Episode IX to be with us towards the end of 2019.
Up next – who knows – but if leaks are anything to go by, it seems that sage Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi, portrayed on screen by the late Sir Alec Guinness and in the prequels by Ewan McGregor, will be the next one in the spotlight. Reports obtained by TMZ appear to assert that Obi-Wan’s movie will start filming early next year, though nothing official appears to have been confirmed as yet. The speculation arises as a result of an obtain production schedule, whereby it is suggested that the movie will center around Obi-Wan’s time while observing Luke Skywalker – thus, filling the gap between Episodes III and IV as far as this particular character is concerned.

However, it’s safe to say that these notes will purely fuel speculation at this point – as some have been keen to point out that plot notes are very similar to the plot of a prequel book called Kenobi – could the leak be little other than wishful thinking? Ewan McGregor has weighed in on the issue, stating that while he would love to step back into the role, there are no firm plans in place at present. A fan favorite, it’d likely be a popular decision to bring the star back to the role – and there’s many fans who can’t see why not.
Speculation over Star Wars spin-offs has run rife for a while now – we were presumed to be getting a Yoda spin-off or a Boba Fett spin-off along the way – but will we be seeing more of Obi-Wan first? Or will Greedo shoot first? With that awful joke out of the way, go book your tickets for Solo!
