2019 Oscar Nominees Revealedby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

We’re coming up to Academy Awards season again – and with Hollywood set to play host to the biggest cinematic winners of the year on February 24th, the runners and riders have finally been revealed with barely a month to spare. 8000 voters who have Academy membership have made their choices across the major categories – and some of them may come across as big surprises indeed.

According to Reuters, both The Favourite and Roma lead the way with nominations across the board, though it really remains to be seen who will come away with the most spoils on the night. Roma, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, marks the first Netflix movie to be nominated in the Best Picture category, while Black Panther earns a nomination as the first superhero movie to be listed for the big award. Bohemian Rhapsody, too, arrives as a likely candidate for many awards, having performed far above expectations at the recent Golden Globes.

Best Actor nominees include a number of seasoned Hollywood names, such as Christian Bale (for Vice), Viggo Mortensen (for Green Book) and Willem Dafoe (for At Eternity’s Gate). Similarly, popular stars Olivia Colman (The Favourite) and Glenn Close (The Wife) emerge as frontrunners for Best Actress. Melissa McCarthy is nominated in the category, too, for Can You Ever Forgive Me – having also been nominated for a Golden Raspberry for her part in The Happytime Murders.

Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs looks set to take on Incredibles 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet from Disney in the Best Animated Film category – though many are curious as to whether or not Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse could pull off a major upset.
