More Details on Star Trek Picard Series - Including Its Name - Supposedly Revealedby 👩‍💻 Stephanie Boyd

The forthcoming Star Trek TV series featuring Patrick Stewart returning to his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard has come under immense scrutiny in recent months. The project was announced last fall, and yet there has been very little concrete information supplied as to what we can expect from the show. Stewart announced his involvement in the project via social media last year, and it has been confirmed that we can see his new on-screen adventures at some point later this year. But how much do we actually know about what’s next for Picard?

According to a number of sources leading back to Production Weekly, it is thought that the show will now officially begin production as of April 14th. That, at least, appears to fit initial reports that April would be the launching pad for the series – but more interestingly, fans may finally have gotten a glimpse of what they can expect from the show’s title. Production Weekly, interestingly, refers to the show as ‘Star Trek Destiny’.

According to, Star Trek Destiny is a name which has previously been floated by CBS as a result of brainstorming ongoing Star Trek projects as recently as last year. A number of these names, including Lower Decks, have been applied to other projects. With the PW source and CBS’ list of names potentially pointing to Picard’s spin-off perhaps finally earning its name, fans appear to be split. This, largely, seems to be as a result of the name being very similar to that of Star Trek Discovery, which is currently mid-season on CBS All Access.

However, the speculation continues. Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green had previously appeared to refer to the series as simply ‘Picard’, while many point out that these links between names doesn’t necessarily indicate anything concrete. In any case, the mystery surrounding the show’s production is certainly continuing to build hype.

Stewart himself has confirmed that the new series will be both familiar and unlike anything Star Trek fans have seen before. There has also been wild speculation as to whether or not it will actually be set in space – with Picard potentially having retired from Starfleet. It’s safe to say that the decision to keep things so tight-lipped are doing wonders for its marketing. We will likely hear more about what to expect from Picard later into the spring and beyond.
