Maharashtra assembly elections: Aaditya Thackeray leading from Worli assembly seat
Thursday, 24 October 2019 Aaditya Thackeray, the 29-year-old son of Shiv Senachief, Uddhav Thackeray, is the first member of the family in the party's history to contest elections. The junior Thackeray is pitted against Suresh Mane of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Gautam Anna Gaikwad of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) and Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) Vishram Tida Padam in Worli assembly constituency.
Voting for Maharashtra & Haryana Assembly Elections is underway. 19,578 polling stations have been set up for voters in Haryana. Polling for 90 Assembly seats of Haryana began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm.
Actor Sonu Sood met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at his residence Matoshree in Mumbai. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's son Aaditya Thackeray was also present during the meeting. After meeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Sonu said, "We have to support all the people who are suffering and need us. I will continue until the last migrant has reached his home. Every party from Kashmir to Kanyakumari has supported and I want to thank everyone for that." Sonu Sood and CM Thackeray's meeting came on a day when Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut alleged that 'There could be a political director behind what actor Sonu Sood is doing'. Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has been in the limelight for sending migrant workers stuck in Mumbai to their home towns and won many hearts for his work in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and state minister Aaditya Thackeray visited Alibaug in Raigad district. They visited the area to take stock of the damages caused by cyclone Nisarga. Cyclone Nisarga hit coastal parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat on June 03.
India's COVID-19 total case count has reached 7,42,417 on July 08.Total active cases reached 2,64,944 and death toll has gone up to 20,642 today. As per Government of India, the rate of recovery among COVID-19 patients continues to increase over the days. It has touched 61.53% today. Presently, there are 2,64,944 active cases under medical supervision. Maharashtra reported 6,603 new COVID-19 cases and 198 deaths today, taking the total number of cases to 2,23,724 including 1,23,192 recoveries and 9,448 deaths. Number of active cases stands at 91,065. Tamil Nadu reports 64 deaths and 3,756 new COVID-19 positive cases today. The total number of positive cases stands at 1,22,350 including 46,480 active cases and 1,700 deaths. 2,033 COVID-19 cases, 3,982 recovered, and 48 deaths reported in Delhi today. Total number of cases in the national capital is now at 1,04,864, including 78,199 recovered, discharged, migrated, 23,452 active cases and 3,213 deaths. 22,028 COVID-19 tests conducted in the national capital today-9,461 RTPCR tests and 12,567 Rapid antigen tests. Delhi government's new 500-bed COVID care centre at Commonwealth Games Village will serve people of East Delhi. New centre aims at providing medical care to patients mild symptoms.
While speaking to media in Mumbai on July 08, the Health Minister of Maharashtra Rajesh Tope spoke on reopening of restaurants and gymnasiums in coming days amid coronavirus outbreak in the state. He said, "Hotels have re-opened in Maharashtra, likewise, we will consider reopening of restaurants and gymnasiums in coming days." "We are positive about it. If social distancing norms are strictly followed, then there is no problem in reopening these two," Health Minister added.
Former cricketer and legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar on July 8 inaugurated a plasma donation center at Seven Hills Hospital, for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in Mumbai. While speaking to ANI the 'Master Blaster' congratulated BMC and administration of Seven Hills Hospital for the initiative. Maharashtra has so far 89,313 active cases and 9250 deaths.
Heavy traffic jam was witnessed at the Western Express Highway in Mumbai on June 30. The jam increased while police checked vehicles amid coronavirus pandemic situation. There are over 73,000 active cases of COVID-19 outbreak in Maharashtra. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on June 29 announced lockdown in the state till July 31 in view of increasing cases.
A BSP leader was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants in UP's Kanpur. SSP of Kanpur City, Dinesh Kumar said, "Pintu Sanger was chased by four unknown youth, who opened fire on him as soon as he got out of the car. The police took the injured Pintu Sengar to the hospital where doctors declared him dead."
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati supported central government's announcement that no further expenditure on new scheme except PM Gareeb Kalyan Package and Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan Package and said that it's a welcome step but its benefit should go to poor. "Central Government said there will be no further expenditure on new schemes, except PM Gareeb Kalyan Package and Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan Package. It's a welcome step but its benefit should go to poor, labourers and unemployed people, which isn't happening," said Mayawati,
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati held BJP and Congress, both parties responsible for prevailing condition of migrant labourers. "BJP and Congress, both share equal responsibility for the current situation of the migrant workers. It would have been better if before announcing the COVID-19 lockdown, migrant workers would have been given some time and facilitated to their native places," said Mayawati.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati on May 16 expressed her condolences to the bereaved families of migrant labourers who killed in Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya road accident. She said it's unfortunate that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directions are not being taken seriously by officers because of which a big accident occurred in Auraiya. She said, "Y'day CM said that labourers who come to UP or pass through state, officers will make arrangements for their food, transit and shelter. It's unfortunate that CM's directions are not being taken seriously by officers because of which a big accident occurred in Auraiya: Mayawati." "I demand Chief Minister to take action against the officers who didn't fulfill their responsibilities. Families of those who were killed or injured in this accident should be provided financial assistance," she added. At least 24 labourers were killed and several injured after the truck they were travelling in, collided with another truck in Auraiya on May 16.
Nationalist Congress Party workers staged protest against BJP MLC Gopichand Padalkar's statement on Sharad Pawar. NCP party workers slapped his posters with slippers and shoes and later burnt it. The protest spiked after Padalkar said that Sharad Pawar is like 'coronavirus' that has infected Maharashtra.
Energy Minister of Maharashtra, Dr. Nitin Raut claimed that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to dislodge the running state government. He made this statement while hitting out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former chief minister of state Devendra Fadnavis for questioning the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government over COVID-19 situation in the state. The minister said, "BJP is trying to get down the state government of Maharashtra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Devendra Fadnavis should stop dreaming 'Mungerilal ke sapne' of toppling Maharashtra government,"Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government formed by Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The alliance took BJP's chance to form the government in 2019 Maharashtra elections. Uddhav Thackeray-led government has faced a lot of flak over the issue of sending migrant labourers home.
