Delhi court sends Chidambaram to ED custody till Oct 30 in INX Media money laundering case

A Delhi court on Thursday sent former finance minister P Chidambaram to custodial interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate till October 30 in the INX Media money laundering case. Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar allowed the ED to quiz Chidambaram and said that he be taken to AIIMS immediately in case of any medical complication.

COVID-19: Delhi crosses 1 lakh mark, reports 1379 new cases

India became the third worst affected country in the world due to COVID-19 on July 06. The confirmed cases in India will soon cross 7 lakh mark. Maharashtra recorded 5,368 new COVID-19 cases and 204 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total number of cases to 2,11,987 and death toll to 9,026. According to the state health department, mumber of active cases stands at 87,681. Recovery rate among the patients is 54.37%. Being the second worst-hit state in the country, confirmed cases in Tamil Nadu is over 1 lakh. Tamil Nadu reported 61 deaths and 3,827 new COVID-19 positive cases on July 06. The state health department reported that the total number of positive cases stands at 1,14,978 including 46,833 active cases and 1,571 deaths. Being the third most affected state, COVID-19 cases crossed 1 lakh mark in Delhi, with 1379 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases stands at 1,00,823 including 72,088 recovered/discharged/migrated and 25,620 active cases. 48 deaths reported today; the death toll is at 3,115. In the last 24 hours, 933 new COVID-19 positive cases and 24 deaths have been reported in Uttar Pradesh. Where several states in the country are witnessing increase in the COVID-19 cases, Ladkah reported decrease in the number of positive cases. 10 patients were cured and discharged in Ladakh and active case drop to 168. 3 more personnel of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. There are total 151 active cases and 273 have recovered till date.

Sterling Biotech case: 'This is political harassment' says Ahmed Patel after ED interrogates him

The Member of Parliament of Rajya Sabha and senior congress leader, Ahmed Patel hits out at central government over his interrogation in a money laundering case by Enforcement Directorate (ED). "I was asked 128 questions. All questions were based on allegations, they had no underlying proof. I replied to the questions, to their satisfaction. I think it's just about political harassment, it's political vendetta. I don't know under whose pressure they're working," said Patel. The Enforcement Directorate on July 02 questioned senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel in connection with a money laundering case, involving Gujarat-based pharmaceutical company Sterling Biotech. The leader also reacted on the matter where Priyanka Gandhi asked to vacate government allotted accommodation within a month. He said, "You can find out how many Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) people are staying where they're not entitled to, ex-MPs and MPs are living in Type-8 (bungalows). It's a double standard and nothing but political harassment."

A team of Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrived at the residence of Congress leader Ahmed Patel in Delhi. They came for questioning Ahmed Patel on June 30 in connection with Sandesara scam. Patel's name was surfaced during investigation against Sandesara Group of Companies in an alleged bank loan fraud case. ED's investigation reveals that Sterling Biotech Ltd (SBL), Sandesara Group and its main promoters namely Nitin Sandesara, Chetan Sandesara, and Deepti Sandesara have cheated more than Rs 14,500 crores to Indian Banks. Not only Ahmed Patel, his son, Faisal Patel, and his son-in-law, Irfan Siddiqui, have been named by a corporate executive being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection to a money laundering case.

Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel who have recovered from coronavirus, donated plasma for treatment of COVID-19 positive patients. Speaking on it, Commandant 31st Battalion of CRPF, Deependra Rajput said, "139 CRPF jawans had tested positive for COVID-19 here. Out of 139, 138 have fully recovered and have returned to duty. Till now, three jawans have donated plasma and more are willing to do so. This is another way to serve the country." DIG of BSF, Lalit Kumar said, "We are preparing list of those who have recovered from COVID-19 and the list is with AIIMS hospital so whenever they'll feel need of plasma of BSF personnel, we will donate it to them."
