Indian Air Force (IAF) Apache attack helicopter, at a forward airbase near India-China border, carried out night operations. These attack helicopters are fully loaded with fire-and-forget anti tank guided missiles, air to air missiles, rockets and other ammunitions. Apache helicopters also have modern Electronic Warfare (EW) capabilities to provide versatility to the helicopter in a network centric aerial warfare. These aircrafts have been modified specifically to suit the exacting standards demanded by IAF.
Indian Air Force's MiG-29 fighter aircraft conducted night operations at a forward airbase near India-China border. Chinook heavylift helicopter also joined the night operation. The Indian Air Force has significantly enhanced deployment of frontline jets, attack helicopters and transport fleet in its key bases along the Line of Actual Control. The air activities in the Ladakh area and other places along the China border had gone up extensively soon after the Galwan valley clash on June 15 in which 20 Indian Army personnel lost their lives.
An alarming increase was witnessed in COVID-19 cases in Guwahati. City reported more than 3,000 COVID-19 infections in the last 7-8 days. Assam Chief Secretary, Kumar Sanjay Krishna said, "So far in Assam, 14,032 cases have been reported. Our recovery rate is 62.19, which is slightly better than the national rate. But we observed that in the last 7-8 days, Guwahati has reported more than 3,000 cases therefore lockdown is in place. Lockdown is till July 12. There might be a possibility of lockdown extension for about a week."
With COVID-19 cases almost touching the 7,000 mark in Assam, state government announced to extend the lockdown further. Complete lockdown will be enforced in Guwahati city from 7 PM of June 28 for 14 days. Irrespective of light showers of rain in the city, police was seen doing strict checking on June 29. Markets remained closed in the city after the lockdown extension.
World tally of COVID-19 cases has crossed 1 crore mark on June 28. Country tally stand on 203051 active cases with 16,095 deaths. Maharashtra has reported 156 deaths and 5,493 new COVID-19 positive cases today. Delhi has reported 2889 new COVID-19 positive cases and 65 deaths today, and is continuing to see marginal dip in fresh infections. Total number of cases stands at 83,077 including 27,847 active cases, 52,607 recovered/discharged/migrated cases and 2623 deaths. Assam has recorded 2307 COVID-19 active cases and nine deaths so far. A 14-day complete lockdown has been imposed in Guwahati city from 7 pm today. Karnataka reported 1267 new COVID-19 positive cases including 783 cases from Bengaluru Urban, taking the total number of cases to 13,190. Death toll rose to 207 after 16 deaths were reported today.
People of Guwahati, rushed to markets to buy essentials as government announced complete lockdown. However, locals welcomed the government's decision and said the lockdown is need of the hour. "Government is doing what they should. We should also be careful and follow all precautions." said a local. Police Commissioner of Guwahati, Munna Prasad Gupta had informed that complete lockdown will be enforced in Guwahati city from 7 pm on June 28 for 14 days amid the increasing cases of coronavirus pandemic.
