Constitutional head of West Bengal has been compromised: Governor targets CM Mamata Banerjee
Tuesday, 26 November 2019 While governor Jagdeep Dhankar stated that under the Mamata-led government, "constitutional head of the state has been compromised", the chief minister hit back saying "no one behaves the way he did". Mamata was apparently miffed with the cold shoulder given to her during an event at the special session of the West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday.
Founder of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, Bimal Gurung pulled out of Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA and said that his party will support those in 2024 elections who'll take up their demand of Gorkhaland. He said, "All I want to say is that our demand for Gorkhaland still remains, we will take this cause forward. It is our aim, our vision. In the 2024 election, we will support the party which will take up this cause." He further said, "Centre didn't meet the commitment they made but Mamata Banerjee fulfilled all promises she made. So, I would like to separate myself from NDA, I would like to break our relation with BJP. In 2021 Bengal election we'll forge an alliance with TMC and give a reply to BJP."
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has lashed out at the Governors of Maharashtra & West Bengal. Sanjay Raut said that Governors are the political agents of the President as they do political work. Raut further added that it seems only the states of West Bengal and Maharashtra seem to have Governors at present. The attack comes days after Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari taunted CM Uddhav Thackeray over reopening of places of worship in the state. Koshyari had questioned Uddhav’s commitment to Hindutva and questioned whether he too had turned secular. The Chief Minister had given a stinging response saying that his Hindutva did not need validation from the Governor and also added that secularism is a part of the Indian constitution. Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar has also been at loggerheads with the Mamata Banerjee led state government over the issue of law and order in the state. BJP has called for a 12 hour shutdown in Barrackpore, West Bengal, over the killing of a party leader on Sunday evening. BJP leader Manish Shukla was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants in front of the police station in Titagarh area. The BJP has demanded a CBI probe into the incident and added that they have no faith in the West Bengal government. BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said that the role of the police should also be probed as the incident happened in front of the police station. Meanwhile, Governor Jagdeep Dhankar had summoned the Additional Chief Secretary and DGP of West Bengal for a meeting this morning which the two officers skipped. BJP workers clashed with police in Howrah district of West Bengal on Thursday over the death of a party worker. BJP workers were seen trying to scale the closed gates of the police station leading to a scuffle with the force personnel on duty. The BJP had called a 12-hour bandh in Bagnan assembly constituency area against the killing of its worker Kinkar Majhi, who succumbed to his bullet injuries on Wednesday. They were denied permission to hold a rally which led to the scuffle with the police. Trouble began when BJP Yuva Morcha state president and Bishnupur MP Saumitra Khan went inside the Bagnan police station to talk to senior officers after the saffron party was denied permission to take out the rally. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut called Munger firing incident an attack on Hindutva. He said, "Munger firing incident is an attack on Hindutva. If such an incident would have had happened in Maharashtra, West Bengal or Rajasthan, governors and BJP leaders would have demanded President's rule.
