Ruling, opposition fronts hold joint protest in Kerala against CAA
Monday, 16 December 2019 Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Ramesh Chennithala began a joint "satyagraha" here on Monday to protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
BJP National General Secretary Muralidhar Rao claimed that the Kerala gold smuggling case is also related to the financing network of terrorist organisations and demanded Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's resignation. He said, "The way gold smuggling case has come into light, it is very evident that it is being done in an organised way. And not only smugglers, but officers from Chief Minister's office are also clearly giving them protection. It is also associated with the financing of terrorist organizations therefore we demand CM Pinarayi Vijayan's resignation."
Minister of State of External Affairs V Muraleedharan held a day long hunger strike on August 02 over the Kerala gold smuggling case. BJP leaders will sit on 18-day long hunger strike, from August 1 to 18. Party is demanding the resignation of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over the gold smuggling case. The matter had come to light after 30 kg of gold worth Rs 14.82 crore smuggled in a consignment camouflaged as diplomatic baggage was busted by customs in Thiruvananthapuram. The case is being probed by the National Investigation Agency and Customs.
'Eid al-Adha' festival is being celebrated in Kerala on July 31. Prayers were being offered at a mosque in Thiruvananthapuram. In view of COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing norms were followed at the mosque. On July 30, state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had announced that the prayers can be offered in mosques of the state, with limited number of persons in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

A BJP delegation led by party's Rajasthan chief Satish Poonia and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Gulab Chand Kataria met Governor Kalraj Mishra over the COVID-19 situation in the state. After the meeting, Poonia criticised Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's remark warning eight crore population of Rajasthan will gherao the Raj Bhavan after the Governor didn't call an immediate session of Assembly requested by the Congress government. "The warning that '8 crore people will gherao the Raj Bhavan' given by Chief Minister and Home Minister of the state can invite punishment under Section 124 of the IPC," Poonia told reporters.
Leader of Opposition of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly GC Kataria on Congress MLAs urged the central government to deploy CRPF in the state so that "the sanctity of the constitutional post is upheld". He said, "I urge the central government to not leave the law and order in the hands of Rajasthan Police and deploy CRPF here so that the sanctity of this constitutional post is upheld. Those protesting at Raj Bhawan should be driven out and all legal remedies should be used for it." Targeting Ashok Gehlot, GC Kataria said, "The manner in which you protested at Raj Bhawan and the kind of slogans which were raised, I think no other CM can do something as condemnable as this. Nation and legal experts should look into this that CM is saying that people will do 'gherao' of Raj Bhawan."
RJD leader and Leader of Opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav on increasing COVID-19 cases in the state said that Bihar is gradually going to become a global hotspot of COVID-19. He said, "As state government is not worried about the rising number of cases. They are doing nothing to increase testing. The number of COVID deaths is also increasing in Bihar. Different COVID-19 numbers are being given for Bihar by centre and state. People are receiving test report even when they have not given any sample for test. Medical staff at COVID centres does not have PPE kits. We demand that state govt must give a clear picture."
