IAF's MiG-27 to take to skies one last time today

The MiG-27, which proved to be an "ace attacker" during the 1999 Kargil War, will roar through the skies for one last time today after serving the IAF for over three decades. The swing-wing fighter has been the backbone of ground-attack fleet of the Air Force for several decades and the IAF will bid adieu to its squadron of seven aircraft from Jodhpur Air Base, officials said.

The air activities in the Ladakh area and other places along the China border had gone up extensively soon after the Galwan valley clash on June 15 in which 20 Indian Army personnel lost their lives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 03 made a surprise visit to Ladakh. The situation at the India-China border remains tensed after 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives in a violent face-off in the Galwan valley on June 15-16.

Government sources told ANI, "During the visit, the Defence Minister will take up the issue of urgent supply of equipment and spares needed for the Russian-origin fighter aircraft including the Su-30MKIs and MiG-29s of the Air Force and the MiG29Ks of the Indian Navy, the T-90 battle ranks for the Army and the Kilo-class submarines of the Navy along with other warships."
