No decision yet on all-India NRC, MHA tells Parliament
Tuesday, 4 February 2020 The home ministry informed the Lok Sabha that it was talking to states having concerns regarding the National Population Register (NPR) updation proposed between April and September this year. The written reply to a question also clarified that collecting Aadhaar details for NPR was optional.
In wake of COVID-19 pandemic, schools partially reopened in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab except containment zones on October 19. However, schools have to followed proper guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The schools will run in shifts and 50% students will be called in every class on day one and the remaining 50% the next day. UP, Punjab and Sikkim has partially reopened their schools from today onwards while many states are still deciding for reopening schools amid COVID-19.
A group of 11 major opposition parties in Pakistan have joined hands to raise their protest against the ruling Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). A large number of people gathered in Gujranwala city of Punjab Province for a massive opposition rally on Friday. The government even blocked the roads to Gujranwala to flog the opposition rally. On September 20, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) was formed by 11 opposition parties to launch a three-phased anti-government movement under an "action plan". It includes countrywide public meetings, protest demonstrations and rallies followed by a 'decisive long march' towards Islamabad in January 2021. Opposition leaders are also seeking no-confidence motions and mass resignations from Parliament for 'the selected' prime minister's resignation. Opposition parties have accused Pakistan Army of rigging the 2018 elections that brought Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party to power.
Bihar recorded a 53.54 per cent polling in the first phase of assembly polls on Wednesday, according to a release by the Chief Electoral Officer Bihar. "Till 5 pm the voter turnout in Bihar phase one election was 52.24 per cent. In 2015 elections, Phase one turnout was 54.94 per cent and in Lok Sabha elections it was 53.54 per cent. The voting is still underway in some places and the final figures will be out soon," Arora said. The CEC said 12 out of the 16 districts where polling was held are affected by left Wing Extremism (LWE). He said that the polling time had to be extended in 12 polling stations owing to the late start of the process. Watch the video for more details.

Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on October 28 informed about the voter turnout in the first phase of the Bihar polls. He said that voter turnout of 52.24 per cent recorded till 5 pm in the first phase of the polls. "Voter turnout of 52.24% recorded till 5 pm in the first phase of #BiharPolls. In 2015, voter turnout in the first phase of assembly elections was 54.94%, and 53.54% in Lok Sabha elections," he said.
Speaking to ANI in Patna on October 28, National President of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Member of Parliament (MP) of Lok Sabha from Bihar's Jamui, Chirag Paswan spoke on Munger incident. Paswan said, "Who is responsible for the firing and lathi-charge incident in Munger? Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is now playing the role of General Dyer who ordered the Jallianwala Bagh massacre." "I am sure CM is responsible for the incident, an investigation should be done," he added.
