A BSP leader was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants in UP's Kanpur. SSP of Kanpur City, Dinesh Kumar said, "Pintu Sanger was chased by four unknown youth, who opened fire on him as soon as he got out of the car. The police took the injured Pintu Sengar to the hospital where doctors declared him dead."
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati supported central government's announcement that no further expenditure on new scheme except PM Gareeb Kalyan Package and Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan Package and said that it's a welcome step but its benefit should go to poor. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati held BJP and Congress, both parties responsible for prevailing condition of migrant labourers. "BJP and Congress, both share equal responsibility for the current situation of the migrant workers. It would have been better if before announcing the COVID-19 lockdown, migrant workers would have been given some time and facilitated to their native places," said Mayawati.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati on May 16 expressed her condolences to the bereaved families of migrant labourers who killed in Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya road accident. She said it's unfortunate that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directions are not being taken seriously by officers because of which a big accident occurred in Auraiya. She said, "Y'day CM said that labourers who come to UP or pass through state, officers will make arrangements for their food, transit and shelter. It's unfortunate that CM's directions are not being taken seriously by officers because of which a big accident occurred in Auraiya: Mayawati." "I demand Chief Minister to take action against the officers who didn't fulfill their responsibilities. Families of those who were killed or injured in this accident should be provided financial assistance," she added. At least 24 labourers were killed and several injured after the truck they were travelling in, collided with another truck in Auraiya on May 16.
UP Congress Minority Cell chief, Shahnawaz Alam was arrested by police in Lucknow in connection with anti-CAA protest that happened on Dec 19, 2019. UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu and others arrived at Hazratganj Police Station following it. Police baton-charged to disperse the party workers. UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu said, "Government is scared, it is attempting to send Congress workers and officer bearers to jail after naming them in false cases. If they don't release him then we will do an agitation tomorrow."
UP Congress Minority Cell chief, Shahnawaz Alam was arrested by police in Lucknow in connection with anti-CAA protest that happened on Dec 19, 2019. Speaking on it, Lucknow DCP (Central), Dinesh Singh said, "Shahnawaz Alam's name had appeared in case related to anti-CAA/NRC protest at Parivartan Chowk on 19th December 2019. The evidence was being gathered since then. He was arrested today after sufficient evidences were gathered. Further action will be taken accordingly."
Amid COVID-19 lockdown and anti-CAA protest, shops reopened in Shaheen Bagh area on May 22. The shops in the area have opened after almost 5 months as they were also closed during anti-CAA protests. Government gave relaxation in COVID-19 lockdown rules and had allowed shops, public transport to function in non-red zone areas.
