Defence expert smells China's role in Nepal redrawing map to include Indian territories

Former Brigadier and defence expert S.K. Chatterjee reacted over the controversial step taken by Nepal parliament where the lower house passed an amendment to redraw the new map including Indian area of Kalapani, Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura in the constitution of the country. "We have to accept that we had a diplomatic setback, this issue should have been attended much earlier, this is not the success story of the neighborhood first policy, we need to look into is was it only domestic compulsions or domestic political requirements which drove Prime Minister of Nepal, KP Sharma Oli to be driving the whole issue so fast or is there a China's role also there in it," said defence expert S.K. Chatterjee. "The amendment bill has gone through the parliament that gives a different status altogether to this problem, now after this it will go for National Assembly and there after go for the President signature, there is no opposition expected enroute, because if anybody opposes this bill is going to be called anti-national, KP Sharma Oli has clear field infront of him," he added.

PM Oli: Nepal will reclaim Lipulekh, Kalapani, Limpiyadhura from India

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday asserted that Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura belong to Nepal and vowed to "reclaim" them from India through political and diplomatic efforts, as his Cabinet endorsed a new political map showing the three areas as Nepalese territory. Addressing Parliament, Oli said the territories belong to Nepal but India has made it a disputed area by keeping its Army there. Nepalis were blocked from going there after India stationed its Army. The prime minister asserted that the Nepal government will make political and diplomatic efforts to reclaim the territory. Oli also expressed the hope that India will follow the path of truth, shown by Satya Meva Jayate, which is mentioned in the Ashoka Chakra, the national symbol of India. The prime minister's remarks came a day after the Cabinet headed by him endorsed a new political map showing Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura under Nepal's territory. Nepal's ruling Nepal Communist Party lawmakers have also tabled a special resolution in Parliament demanding return of Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh to Nepal. India and Nepal are at a row after the Indian side issued a new political map incorporating Kalapani and Lipulekh on its side of the border in October last year. The tension further escalated after India inaugurated the road link connecting Kailash Mansarovar, a holy pilgrimage site situated at Tibet, China that passes through the territory belonging to Nepal.

Indians have done their best to respond to China's aggressive actions: Mike Pompeo

Speaking on India-China border tensions, US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo said, "I have spoken with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar a number of times about this. Chinese took incredibly aggressive actions and Indians have done their best to respond to that. There aren't many neighbours that can satisfactorily say that they know where their sovereignty ends and the Chinese Communist Party will respect that. That is certainly true now for people of Bhutan. The world must come together to respond to this. This increasing revisionist effort that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is engaged in is something that President Trump has taken incredibly seriously." He further said, "World has seen true colours of Chinese Communist Party and I am convinced more than ever that free people of the world will come to understand the threat. The impact General Secy Xi Jinping has on the world is not good for free and democracy loving people."
