Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday proposed an "emergency government" to tackle the coronavirus crisis, after his corruption trial was delayed for two months due to the outbreak. David Doyle reports.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday held a meeting with several leading members of film fraternity. The virtual meeting was over the UP CM's proposal of a new film city in the state. In his address, CM Yogi stressed on what makes the state the 'cultural centre' of the country. He pointed out that UP shares borders with seven states and a neighbouring country (Nepal). CM Yogi added that the new film city will come up near the site of the historical city of Hastinapur. Singers Udit Narayan, Kailash Kher, Anup Jalota were present at the meeting. Several other dignitaries including Anupam Kher, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri took part virtually in the meeting. The film city was proposed by Yogi last week and 1000 acres of land have been identified for the project. The film city is likely to come up in the state's Gautam Buddh Nagar district. Incidentally, the district already boasts of a film city, located at Sector 16 A in Noida.

Domestic flights resumed operations in Nepal from September 21 after 7-month halt. Domestic Terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport wore the "new-normal" look with sanitizer stands and marked floors to ensure social distancing. Temperature of the passengers was being checked at the terminal. The health protocol to prevent the spread of the virus has been implemented strictly by the airports.
With the arrival of two sets of rail to revive operation in the Janakpur-Jaynagar section, trial for Nepal's first broad-gauge railway service in Janakpur has begun from September 18. Remained halted for past six years for upgrade the previous narrow-gauge, now a broad-gauge is expected to come into operation after Dashain-Tihar. With its operation, the first trans-border railway connection between India and Nepal would again be established.People gathered in large numbers at halt station in Janakpur on Friday afternoon to see and welcome the arriving train procured by Government of Nepal from Konkan Railways of India. Nepal's Railway Department has procured the rail engines and coaches from Kokan India for 84 crore 65 lakhs Nepali rupees."I am very-very happy as it is set to resume which shows the united work of Indian and Nepali Government. It would prove best for the people of Mithilanchal to ferry and also would increase comfort of people," Ram Lakhan Tapar from Janakpur who came to see the arriving train told ANI.Operated using diesel and electricity, each set has 5 bogies (coaches). Out of them one is AC coach while three are General bogies. One of the set's engines has been designed with the capacity to accommodate passengers. Combining the 5 bogies, it bears the capacity of 1300 passengers at a time. The 34 kilometer broad-gauge railway track has been built with Indian assistance. It would revive the earlier Janakpur-Jaynagar railways connection between India and Nepal.The Kurtha-Jaynagar railway track measuring 35 kilometres in length section was constructed with the technical and financial support of India. The railway track is likely to come into operation after Dashain and Tihar festivals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that misinformation is being spread that farmers won't get correct prices. He hailed the passage of agriculture bills in Lok Sabha and slammed opposition for not supporting the reforms. PM Modi's statements came in the backdrop of protests across nation against passage of bills. PM Modi was speaking at a railway bridge inauguration event in Bihar. He inaugurated the Kosi Rail Mega Bridge, new rail lines and electrification projects. The event was held via video-conferencing. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal was also present at the event. Kosi Rail Mahasetu is 1.9 KM long and its construction cost is Rs. 516 Crore. This bridge is of strategic importance along the India-Nepal border. Assembly polls in Bihar are likely to be held in October-November.

Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid spoke in Hindi and said that amid COVID-19, India has been supportive friend. "An epidemic (COVID) that forced us to close borders, but our friends proved that it couldn't force them to close doors to their heart. Even in times like these, India remained a great friend," said Maldives Foreign Minister.
Activists from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir staged a protest against the Islamic Republic in the United Kingdom. The demonstration was conducted outside Pakistan's consulate in Bradford. Pakistani nationals reportedly tried to sabotage the protest by intimidating the activists. Even UK police were seen intervening in the incident. Mahmood Kashmiri, one of the protestors, said that Pakistani diplomats were behind the attempt to break up the demonstration. He added that the Pakistanis needed to learn that they can't intimidate protestors in the UK, like they do in their home country. The demonstration was conducted in solidarity with Tanveer Ahmed, a PoK activist and journalist. He reportedly held a hunger strike a few weeks ago against Pakistani flags being hoisted at public places in PoK. He was reportedly arrested after taking down the flag himself. Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma on Thursday admitted that the side will surely miss the services of pacer Lasith Malinga and said 'it is hard to fill his boots'. Lasith Malinga has requested unavailability for the season for personal reasons and to be with family back home in Sri Lanka, as per an MI release. Despite the absence of Malinga, MI has Kiwi pacers Trent Boult, Mitchell McClenaghan, Australia's Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah."It is hard to fill the boots of Malinga, whatever he has done for Sri Lanka and Mumbai Indians, it's remarkable. He has been a match-winner for us, whenever we found ourselves in a hard situation, he bailed us out. Unfortunately, he is not part of the team this year, but we have Coulter-Nile, Boult this year and these players will play a crucial role. What Malinga did is uncomparable," Rohit said while addressing a pre-season virtual press conference with head coach Mahela Jayawardene. India's neighbouring countries Nepal and Bhutan expressed their condolences on the death of former President Pranab Mukherjee. Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli took to Twitter to pay tribute to Mukherjee. PM Oli tweeted, "In his demise, Nepal has lost a great friend. We remember his contributions in strengthening Nepal-India relations in different capacities of his public life." Meanwhile, Bhutan Prime Minister Lotay Tshering also expressed his condolence on Twitter. Former President passed away on August 31 at the age of 84 and had contracted COVID-19.
Members of the Indian, Vietnamese and the Tibetan communities held a protest outside the Capitol Hill in Washington against China. The protesters were holding anti-China posters, urging people to boycott Chinese products. They shouted slogans against China's expansionist policies against their neighbours. Posters urging China to vacate Akshai Chin and Kashmir were also seen during the protest. Since the Galwan standoff between India and China, anti-China protests have broken out in several cities in the United States. 'China is aggressively trying to steal the land from India in Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh. They are intimidating Bhutan. They have also claimed that the Tajikistan mountains belong to them. Vietnam, Malaysia, Japan, Russia are also victims of China's expansionist policies', said a protester Adapa Prasad. Members of Vietnamese community also lashed out against the Communist government of China and said that their fight is against the CCP and not the people of China. China's expansionist policy has been slammed by countries across the world. China also faced flak for the Galwan faceoff where 20 India jawans were killed. Watch the full video for all the details.
