India became the third worst affected country in the world due to COVID-19 on July 06. The confirmed cases in India will soon cross 7 lakh mark. Maharashtra recorded 5,368 new COVID-19 cases and 204 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total number of cases to 2,11,987 and death toll to 9,026. According to the state health department, mumber of active cases stands at 87,681. Recovery rate among the patients is 54.37%. Being the second worst-hit state in the country, confirmed cases in Tamil Nadu is over 1 lakh. Tamil Nadu reported 61 deaths and 3,827 new COVID-19 positive cases on July 06. The state health department reported that the total number of positive cases stands at 1,14,978 including 46,833 active cases and 1,571 deaths. Being the third most affected state, COVID-19 cases crossed 1 lakh mark in Delhi, with 1379 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases stands at 1,00,823 including 72,088 recovered/discharged/migrated and 25,620 active cases. 48 deaths reported today; the death toll is at 3,115. In the last 24 hours, 933 new COVID-19 positive cases and 24 deaths have been reported in Uttar Pradesh. Where several states in the country are witnessing increase in the COVID-19 cases, Ladkah reported decrease in the number of positive cases. 10 patients were cured and discharged in Ladakh and active case drop to 168. 3 more personnel of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. A team of 30 freshly inducted doctors of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has been deployed at Sardar Patel COVID Care Centre and Hospital in Delhi. They have been deployed at Radha Soami Satsang Beas in Chattarpur on July 06. These doctors have been deployed at the centre as their first posting in service. The incessant rainfall led to water-logging in parts of Patna city on July 05. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna will witness cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers today. Patna has recorded the min temp of 25 degreeC and max 32 degree C.

At least eight police personnel, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Devendra Mishra, lost their lives after they were fired upon by criminals when a police team had gone to raid an area in Kanpur's Bikaru village in search of history-sheeter Vikas Dubey. While speaking to ANI, the Director General of Police (DGP) of UP, Hitesh Chandra Awasthy said, "Case under Section 307 was lodged against history-sheeter Vikas Dubey, police had gone to arrest him. JCBs were put up there which obstructed our vehicles. When force got down, criminals opened fire." "There was retaliatory firing but criminals were at a height, so our 8 men died. Around 7 of our men were injured. Operation still underway as criminals managed to escape, taking advantage of the dark. IG, ADG, ADG (Law and Order) have been sent there to supervise operation. Forensic team from Kanpur was at spot, an expert team from Lucknow also being sent," he added. "Special Task Force (STF) has been deployed. IG and STF are reaching the spot. Kanpur STF is already at work. A large scale operation is being carried out. This is in continuation with the operation for which the team had gone there in the first place," UP DGP further stated.
UP Congress Minority Cell chief, Shahnawaz Alam was arrested by police in Lucknow in connection with anti-CAA protest that happened on Dec 19, 2019. Speaking on it, Lucknow DCP (Central), Dinesh Singh said, "Shahnawaz Alam's name had appeared in case related to anti-CAA/NRC protest at Parivartan Chowk on 19th December 2019. The evidence was being gathered since then. He was arrested today after sufficient evidences were gathered. Further action will be taken accordingly."

"Health Department has informed that Antigen test kits have arrived and they will be brought into use from tomorrow. Special focus will be on Noida, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Kanpur Nagar districts," said UP Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish K Awasthi.
