Defence ministry inks Rs 1,200 crore deal to upgrade 37 airbases to boost operational capabilities

The defence ministry on Friday inked the long pending Rs 1,200 crore deal with Tata Power SED (strategic electronics division) to progressively upgrade 37 airfields of IAF, Navy and Coast Guard with modern infrastructure and equipment to help fighter and aircraft operations in poor visibility and adverse weather conditions.

Indian Air Force (IAF) Apache attack helicopter, at a forward airbase near India-China border, carried out night operations. These attack helicopters are fully loaded with fire-and-forget anti tank guided missiles, air to air missiles, rockets and other ammunitions. Indian Air Force's MiG-29 fighter aircraft conducted night operations at a forward airbase near India-China border. Chinook heavylift helicopter also joined the night operation. The Indian Air Force has significantly enhanced deployment of frontline jets, attack helicopters and transport fleet in its key bases along the Line of Actual Control. The air activities in the Ladakh area and other places along the China border had gone up extensively soon after the Galwan valley clash on June 15 in which 20 Indian Army personnel lost their lives.
