Mumbai top cop meets CM hours after transfer of DCPs revoked
Sunday, 5 July 2020 Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh called on Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday, hours after the state government revoked the home department's order for transfer of 10 DCPs in the city. The developments have once again triggered talks about the lack of coordination between Shiv Sena and NCP, two of the three constituents of the Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) govt.
Heavy rain lashed parts of Mumbai on Wednesday, disrupting normal life. Neighbouring Thane and Palghar districts of also saw heavy showers. Rains also lashed Pune, Satara and Kolhapur districts in western Maharashtra. Severe waterlogging was witnessed on several roads and low-lying areas. Local train services were affected due to waterlogging on rail tracks. Trees fell due to gusty winds and damaged vehicles. Water entered the state-run J J Hospital in the Byculla area as the rain continued to pound through the day. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asked the Mumbai municipal corporation to stay on high alert in the view of more rain forecast for Thursday. Teams of NDRF have been stationed at many places to deal with any eventualities. Indian Meteorological Department has predicted intense rainfall in Mumbai for the next 48 hours. CM Thackeray has also asked people to stay indoors and venture out only for essential work. He took stock of situation and asked BMC to coordinate with police, railway authorities and NDRF. Thackeray directed authorities to monitor situation arising out of disruption of uprooting of trees, waterlogging.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was not invited for foundation stone laying ceremony of Ram Temple. Speaking on it, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said, "It is appropriate if less number of people have been invited there (in Ayodhya), in the wake of COVID-19. Today official function is being held but there is no ban on anyone's visit to Ayodhya. We'll go there later again." Ram Temple foundation stone laying ceremony in Ayodhya is held on August 5.

Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt visited Sanjay Dutt at his house after Dutt was diagnosed with lung cancer. Ranbir and Alia were spotted together at Dutt’s house. Ranbir has played Sanjay Dutt’s role in the film Sanju while Alia has worked with Dutt in the upcoming movie Sadak 2. Meanwhile, other Bollywood celebrities were also spotted at various places in Mumbai. Celebs were seen stepping out of the house with precautions, wearing masks. Tiger Shroff and Ekta Kapoor were spotted in Juhu at separate locations. Malaika Arora was also seen at a salon in Mumbai. Angrezi Medium actor Radhika Madan was seen at the Maddock films office. R Madhavan was seen at the Mumbai airport.

The Commissioner of Police, Mumbai held a press conference to provide an update on the progress in investigation regarding actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death. Param Bir Singh revealed that during the probe, police found that the late actor suffered from bipolar disorder and was taking medications. He was also consulting a psychiatrist for treatment. Mumbai police have so far recorded statements of over 55 people. Mumbai police chief also spoke on the possible conclusions of the investigation. If the investigators don't find any criminality in Sushant's death, then they will approach a magistrate to file a closure report. However, if criminality is found, then charges under the Indian Penal Code would be filed, and the probe would continue. PB Singh also revealed the various angles which the probe team is following up on, including professional rivalry, financial transactions, and health. Meanwhile, controversy has broken out over a parallel investigation being conducted by Bihar police following a complaint against Sushant's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty by the late actor's father. Mumbai Commissioner of Police on August 03 clarified on Bihar Police's claim of non cooperation and said that there is no question of non-cooperation. Mumbai Police is legally examining whether Bihar Police have jurisdiction or not in Sushant Singh's death case. "There is no question of non-cooperation, we are legally examining whether they (Bihar police) have jurisdiction or not in Sushant Singh Rajput Case. Still, if they've got jurisdiction then they should prove it," said Param Bir on Sushant Singh Rajput's death case.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot met Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot at his residence for the Congress Legislature Party meet. This was the first time the two leaders came face to face after a month-long freeze in ties following Pilot's rebellion against the state government. Several other Congress MLAs also arrived at Gehlot's residence to attend the meeting which has been scheduled a day ahead of the special session of the Rajasthan Assembly on Friday. Earlier in the day, Gehlot said whatever misunderstanding occurred within the Congress party in the last one month, needs to be forgiven and forgotten. Last month, Pilot was removed as Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan and the state Congress chief after he led a rebellion against the Gehlot led government. The reconciliation came after Pilot met Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi earlier in the week. Meanwhile, BJP also held a legislature party meeting which was also attended by former CM Vasundhara Raje. Over 7000 cusecs of water was released from Khadakwasla Dam on August 13. The water was released following rainfall in Maharashtra's Pune. Due to continuous downpour in parts of Pune, dam was facing heavy influx of water since beginning of August.
The cases of coronavirus continued to rise in India. Maharashtra crossed 5.6 lakh mark of COVID-19 cases and reached to 5,60,126. 11,813 new COVID-19 cases and 413 deaths reported in Maharashtra on Aug 13. Delhi reported 956 new COVID-19 positive cases and 14 deaths today. 9996 new COVID-19 positive cases and 82 deaths have been reported in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours. 6706 COVID-19 cases and 103 deaths reported in Karnataka today.

Nationalist Congress Party workers staged protest against BJP MLC Gopichand Padalkar's statement on Sharad Pawar. NCP party workers slapped his posters with slippers and shoes and later burnt it. The protest spiked after Padalkar said that Sharad Pawar is like 'coronavirus' that has infected Maharashtra.
Fresh twists and turns in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case on Monday. Bollywood actor Rhea Chakraborty approached the Supreme Court on Monday with a fresh plea alleging “media trial”. Rhea said she should not be made a scapegoat of political agendas. The actor also alleged the transfer of probe by Bihar Police to CBI was “illegal and bad in law”. Rhea was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate on Monday in the money laundering case linked to Sushant’s death. Rhea and her family members were summoned on Monday morning. Later, Sushant’s business manager Shruti Modi was also questioned in the case. Sushant’s friend Siddharth Pithani also reached Enforcement Directorate on Monday. Centre had transferred Sushant’s case to the CBI after which an FIR was re-registered on Thursday naming Rhea and others. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that Sushant did not have the best of relations with his father. Sushant’s family hit back at the Shiv Sena leader and demanded an apology.
