Local artists painted the outer walls of government offices to showcase Odisha's traditional culture. Odisha painters are bearing the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic. Government provided work to the jobless artists to meet their basic needs.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on August 01 inaugurated two COVID-19 dedicated hospitals in Ganjam district. The COVID dedicated hospitals have a capacity of 150 beds each. Both the hospitals have oxygen facilities and sufficient number of ventilators. So far, 11182 active cases have been recorded in the state.
A giant fish weighing about 800 kg was caught by fishermen off the coast of Digha in West Bengal. The fish was about 8 feet long and 5 feet wide and resembled the ear of an elephant. Fishermen in the coastal town said that this is the biggest fish they have caught in their life. The fish is believed to be a giant Manta Ray from the Ray family of fishes given the location where it was caught. A massive crowd had gathered to get a glimpse of the fish as soon as news spread in the area. The video of the fish has also gone viral on social media now. The fish was later sold off to a fish trading firm for Rs 50,000. In March another large Manta Ray, weighing around 300 kg was caught by fishermen off the Digha coast while in January, a 200 kg fish was caught in waters off Balaramgadi beach in Odisha. India reported a single-day spike of 52,050 in last 24 hours taking the country's tally to 18,55,746. So far, the country has 5, 86, 298 active cases. India's permanent representative to the United Nations, TS Tirumurti while speaking to ANI on reports of disinformation being spread through social media by Pakistan said that joint statement by India and a group of selected countries was designed to counter exactly this type of disinformation spread by countries like Pakistan in the context of COVID-19. He said, "India and a group of selected countries cutting across regions made a joint statement in the context of infodemic in the context of COVID19, at the UN. The statement was designed to counter exactly this type of disinformation spread by countries like Pak in the context of COVID-19 to foment division and create disharmony among communities." On JandK issue he further said, "I want to reassure you that the attempt by Pakistan to involve the United Nations in the context of Jammu and Kashmir, has not borne fruit and has been wrongly refuted by India at every turn."
