Independence Day 2020: Security tightened, Armed Forces band wows spectators

Delhi police stepped up security in  and around the capital ahead of the Independence day celebration on August 15. Police were seen checking vehicles in the India gate and Connaught place region. Similar checks are also underway in other regions of the capital. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Indian Armed Forces (Tri-Service) Band gave a musical performance at the North Block. The Defence Ministry has said that the Independence Day event will be marked by musical performances by the bands from the Army, Navy and the Indian Air Force. 'These performances are intended as gestures of gratitude and appreciation of the nation towards the Corona warriors who have been steadfastly fighting to stop the spread of the Coronavirus in the country even at the risk of their lives,' said the Ministry of Defence in a press statement. Military and Police Bands will also perform in Imphal, Bhopal and Jhansi on August 12. The final performance of the series will be held on August 13 in Lucknow, Faizabad, Shilong, Madurai and Champaran, it stated. Watch the full video for all the details.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a COVID hospital in Noida sector 39 on August 08. CM Yogi Adityanath examined the preparations at the 400-bed hospital. Journalist Vikram Joshi murder: Last absconding accused held, say police

Ghaziabad police arrested the last remaining accused in journalist Vikram Joshi murder case. The accused Akash Bihari, who was absconding, is resident of Mata colony in Ghaziabad. Police had also placed a reward of Rs 25000 on accused Akash Bihari. Nine other accused in the murder case had been arrested previously. "Nine accused were previously arrested. Accused Aakash Bihari was absconding. Akash Bihari has been arrested. All the accused in the case have been nabbed. Chargesheet will be filed soon," said SSP Ghaziabad, Kalanidhi Naithani. Vikram Joshi was shot in the head by goons near his home in Vijay Nagar on the night of July 20. The incident took place when he was returning home on a two-wheeler. 35-year-old Joshi succumbed to his injuries on July 22 at a private hospital. Earlier, Joshi had filed police complaint against some men who were harassing his niece. Joshi's family said local police took no action on complaints filed earlier against goons. Ghaziabad Police had suspended police station incharge of the area where Joshi was shot. Probe in the case was transferred from local Vijay Nagar to Kotwali Nagar police station.
