Watch: Farmer groups hold ‘rail roko’ in Punjab; BJP & Congress trade charges

Farmer groups in Punjab have started their three day long ‘rail roko’ agitation against the three agriculture bills. Farmers were seen gathering on railway tracks as part of their protests. Special passenger trains running from the railways' Ferozepur division have been cancelled fully or partially from September 24 to 26 in view of the farmer outfits' three-day rail roko protest. The call for 'rail roko' agitation was given by the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee and later different farmers' outfits extended their support to it. Parliament has passed the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill; Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill; and Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill and they now await the President’s nod to become laws. Meanwhile, BJP and the Congress are involved in a war of words over the bills. While Congress said that the BJP government is trying to make farmers slaves and help their ‘corporate friends’, BJP has hit back saying that the Congress should have discussed their issues in Parliament rather than boycott the session. ‘Netas, not farmers worried about agri bills’: Narendra Tomar’s jibe at oppn

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has lashed out at the Congress and other opposition parties over the agri bills. Tomar said that Congress had mentioned these very points in their manifesto at the state level in Punjab and also the national manifesto. Tomar said that Congress should first admit that they are making a U-turn on what they had said in the manifesto. Tomar added that Congress is only trying to mislead the farmers and now it’s time for them to get justice and freedom. He said that the Congress had so much opportunity to work for farmers but succumbed to pressure from some quarters. Tomar slammed the opposition for the unruly scenes in the Rajya Sabha and added that there was no reason to send the bills to the select committee. ‘Farmers are now going to get the freedom to sell their produce anywhere they want, they will be free. Farmers are not going to have any problem, only politicians will,’ Tomar said. Watch the full video for all the details.

‘Conspiracy failed…’: Gehlot-led Rajasthan govt wins trust vote in assembly

The Ashok Gehlot government won a confidence vote in the Rajasthan Assembly on Friday, ending for now the threat triggered by a rebellion within the Congress ranks in the state. The motion of confidence moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal was passed by voice vote, an expected win after the return of the 19 dissident Congress MLAs led by Sachin Pilot to the party-fold. During the discussion, Pilot said he will fight for the Congress as its "strongest warrior". Replying to the debate on the motion, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticised the BJP, accusing it again of trying to bring down his government. "I will not let the government topple at any cost even if you make all attempts," he said. Gehlot said the crisis had come to an end in a “beautiful manner” and this had hurt the Bharatiya Janata Party.
