'Pakistan is the nerve centre of terrorism': India's envoy to United Nations

India's permanent representative to the United Nations, TS Tirumurti has lashed out at Pakistan for harbouring terror groups on its soil. Indian envoy to the UN said that Pakistan is the nerve centre of terrorism and added the even its Prime Minister Imran Khan had admitted that some 40,000 terrorists were present in Pakistan. 'Pakistan is home to the largest number of listed terrorists, internationally designated terrorist entities and individuals, including Jamaat-ud-Dawah, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad and Hizbul Mujahideen', said Tirumurti. Referring to the United Nations’ 26th report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team concerning ISIS, the ambassador said that there is a clear acknowledgement that the leadership and funding for  terrorist entities like Al-Qaeda, ISIS emanate from Pakistan. The Indian envoy's attack on Pakistan comes even as it has been trying to rake up the Kashmir issue at international forums but has failed to gain any support. Al Qaeda terrorists nabbed from Kerala, Bengal; were targeting navy base: NIA

National Investigative Agency (NIA) arrested nine Al Qaeda terrorists from West Bengal and Kerala. They are accused of being radicalised by a Pakistan-based Al Qaeda module. The men were radicalised on social media, motivated to undertake attacks at multiple places. They were arrested in raids carried out in Bengal’s Murshidabad and Kerala's Ernakulam. NIA nabbed Leu Yean Ahmed and Abu Sufiyan from West Bengal among others. From Kerala, the agency arrested three including Mosaraf Hossen and Murshid Hasan. Six of them were arrested in West Bengal while three were nabbed in Kerala. NIA informed that the Al Qaeda module was actively indulged in fundraising. A few gang members were planning to travel to New Delhi to procure arms and ammunition. NIA added that the arrests have pre-empted possible terrorist attacks in the country.

Manoj Sinha, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, announced a package worth Rs 1,350 crore aimed at boosting economic activity in the Union Territory. While the package contains some relief for common people like 50% discount on electricity and water bills for a year, the main beneficiaries are businesspersons, traders, and industrialists. From an interest subvention scheme for all commercial borrowers, to doubling of amount available under the credit card scheme for the handicraft industry, and special efforts to boost tourism - the announcement will help create lakhs of jobs in J&K, as per the L-G. Commenting on the scheme, chief of the J&K Apni Party, Altaf Bukhari, said that Sinha had proven that he was a man of his word by expeditiously bringing in an economic package. However, he added that given the Rs 40,000 crore loss suffered by the UT's economy, the current package was a drop in the ocean, and a 'large heart' was needed to truly revive J&K's economy.
