ECI to take decision in next two-three days to visit Bihar, says CEC Sunil Arora
Tuesday, 22 September 2020 The Election Commission of India (ECI) has clarified that a decision would be taken in the next two to three days to visit Bihar, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora said on Monday. Addressing an international webinar on "Issues, challenges and protocols for conducting elections during COVID-19: sharing country experiences", the CEC said the Commission would take a decision within the "next two to three days on visiting Bihar".

Halfway through the West Bengal Assembly polls, the Election Commission of India has got a new chief. On April 13, Sushil Chandra took charge as the 24th CEC, succeeding Sunil Arora. On the latter's last day in office, the EC barred Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from campaigning for 24 hours. Chandra became an Election Commissioner in 2019, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Sushil Chandra on April 13 took charge as the 24th Chief Election Commissioner. Chandra replaces Sunil Arora who retired on April 12. Sushil Chandra was appointed as Election Commissioner in 2019 before Lok Sabha elections.
24 states including Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have more than 15% positivity rate for COVID-19 in their daily infections, informed Union Health Ministry. As the number of COVID cases is increasing in Bihar, state Health Minister Mangal Pandey on May 06 said the state government has now given the power to District Magistrate and medical colleges' superintendent to appoint doctors, nurses and paramedical staff for 3 months during this COVID period. "As cases are rising in the state we need more manpower to increase beds in hospitals. District Magistrate and medical colleges' superintendents can now appoint doctors, nurses and paramedical staff for 3 months during this COVID period," Pandey told ANI.
After the results were declared yesterday, Banerjee claimed that her party would move the constitution bench of the Supreme Court against the Election Commission of India. This came after Mamata Banerjee lost the Nandigram constituency to BJP's Suvendu Adhikari by a margin of 1,956 votes.
