Wednesday, 7 October 2020 () Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday expressed anguish over an attack by militants on a political leader in Ganderbal area, an official spokesman said. The militants attacked BJP leader Ghulam Qadir on Tuesday, leaving his personal security guard dead, while an ultra was also killed in the retaliatory action.

Terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was behind the killing of three BJP leaders in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said and appealed to the protected persons in the valley not to move around without their security. Three BJP workers -- Fida Hussain, Umer Hajam, and Umer Rashid Beigh -- were shot dead by militants in the Y K Pora area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir late on Thursday evening. The Resistance Front (TRF), which is believed to be a shadow group of LeT, claimed responsibility for the killings. IGP (Kashmir) Kumar said police have seized a vehicle used in the attack and that such killings were being executed at the behest of Pakistan. Watch the video for more details.

People in large numbers participated in the 'Pedal for Peace' cycle race organized by J-K's police in Srinagar on October 11. The Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Khan and IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar flagged off sub junior boys/girls and veteran men categories in Nehru Park. Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha announced Rs 1,350 crores economic package for business community who are facing economic difficulties. This will be additional to the benefits of 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat'. "I am glad to announce Rs 1,350 crores economic package for the people in the business community facing economic difficulties. This is additional to the benefits of 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat' and other measures taken by us to comfort the business community," said Manoj Sinha. "We have decided to give 5% interest subvention to every borrower from the business community, without any conditions for six months in the current financial year. This will be a huge relief and help in generating employment here," Manoj Sinha said in a press conference at Srinagar.
In a bid to tap into the growth potential of the Horticulture sector in Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched a Market Intervention Scheme to facilitate the stakeholders by providing valuable marketing platform and ensuring optimum prices to the apple growers. The Market Intervention Scheme will make way for the procurement of 12 lakh metric tonnes of apples, which will not only ensure profitability to the apple growers but will also create rural employment through supplementary services. The Union Cabinet had last week approved the extension of the Market Intervention Scheme for apple procurement in Jammu and Kashmir for 2020-21 on the same terms and the condition as was done in 2019-20. The procurement of apple will be done by NAFED through the Directorate of Planning and Marketing, Department of Horticulture and Jammu Kashmir Horticulture Processing and Marketing Corporation (JKHPMC), directly from apple farmers, and the payment will be made through Direct Benefit Transfer into the bank accounts of apple farmers.
Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Ministry, Prahlad Singh Patel recalled Pakistan misadventure of 22nd October 1947. While speaking at two-day symposium' on 'Memories of 22 October 1947' in Srinagar, Patel said, "The attack by Pakistan-backed tribal invaders in Kashmir on 22 October 1947 is a black day for Kashmiriyat'. The event was organised by National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology in collaboration with government of JandK. Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also attended the event.
Several PDP leaders were on Thursday detained by police as they tried to stage a protest against the new land laws notified by the Centre for Jammu and Kashmir. The party leaders wanted to hold a protest rally against the amendments made to the land laws of the Union territory by the Centre on Tuesday which allow people from other parts of the country to buy land in the region. The mainstream parties of Kashmir have decried the amendments and termed the move akin to putting Jammu and Kashmir up for sale. Harvesting season of paddy crop is likely to give a boost to the agricultural sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Harvesting process is underway in various district of the valley including Srinagar, Anantnag, Budgam, Baramulla, Pulwama and Ganderbal. Farmers in Srinagar are harvesting their golden-coloured paddy in traditional style as they expect quality crop this year. The climatic conditions have also been in favour of farmers as it benefitted the paddy production in the valley. Local labourers are getting more employment as due the pandemic; labourers from other states were not available this year.
